New Stop Censorship Header… and why
Let’s take a break from Club Penguin blogging for now. As you may have noticed, today I slightly changed the header to protest together with many of the Internet, against SOPA and PIPA.
Now enough bragging. What is this SOPA and PIPA everyone is talking about you may ask? SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) are two new bills proposed to the US Congress. Both bills goal are mainly to end piracy and illegal content on the internet. Sounds all good for now, but when passed experts say it might threat the internet. The US Congress will have power over all the internet to censor and will delete any links, pictures, videos and all these kinds without any warning. This could mean big problems to many websites especially to blogs, social networks and search engines. To make things worse, US Congress might also censor content inappropriately and make the internet like a US-propagandized world.
SOPA first brought up in October 2011 and PIPA in May 2011, the two bills are in consideration in the next few weeks. Large websites are already protesting against Internet Censorship as you may know; Wikipedia (who had a blackout), Google, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and much, much more today January 18 2012, is Stop Internet Censorship Day. It is the largest online protest in history.
I am proud to say Penguin Ville is joining the resistance. Though a small website we can still help as both bills can also be a threat to the Club Penguin blogging community in the future.
Keep in mind I am only summarizing the whole thing in a few words. So if you are interested take a looks at the links below:
